The year 1884 marks the real beginning of German colonial policy. Under Chancellor Bismarck, the German Empire was really gas and acquired a wealth of 1884/85 colonies in Africa and today's Papua New Guinea. And the (then already very active) propaganda machine was hardly misses an opportunity to bring the average citizen the blessing of the colonial aspirations close.
How far had the colonial policy has found its way into the everyday life of that time, shows a small puzzle book from 1889, which I came across a few days ago. It is titled " match games " and was written by Sophus Tromholt , one in 1851 in Husum time a Danish-born scientist and mathematician.
The preface shows what it's all in the book is:
Already the 2nd Mystery of this book reflects (on these days politically absolutely incorrect manner) against the Zeitgeist:
Who reading difficulties with the black letter may, the question one more time look in "normal characters" . Pretty tricky, eh? Such match puzzle is one of 9 Live and Co. no longer used ... This sets the size (but please do not give up too early):
And here is the solution for safety's sake again in plain text. Even otherwise, the book contains many more (a total of 285), challenging puzzles and tasks. It was once so popular that it 1889-1915 a total of 17 conditions experienced, and has recently been 2007 by the Anaconda-Verlag Köln reprinted .
I was going to be interesting, like puzzle number 2 is today ... Maybe I can help because one of my readers?
